How to Order Custom Patches in Bulk: A Guide for Teams, Businesses, and Events

Custom patches scale. That's one of the reasons they've been a staple of team, military, and corporate culture for decades. A single patch design can be produced in quantities of 10 or 1,000 with consistent quality, reasonable per-unit cost, and a relatively fast turnaround — provided you know what to prepare.

This guide is for coaches, event organizers, business owners, HR managers, and anyone else who needs custom patches in quantity. Here's what you need to know before you order.

Why Businesses and Teams Choose Custom Patches

Patches compete directly with other branded merchandise — such as shirts, pens, lanyards, and drinkware — in the promotional products space. They win on a few specific dimensions:

  • They're wearable on existing gear — no new shirt required. People put patches on hats, bags, and jackets they already own and love.

  • They're durable — a quality embroidered or woven patch doesn't fade, tear, or fall apart after a few washes, the way a screen-printed shirt does

  • They're collectible — people keep patches. A good patch ends up on a hat that stays in rotation for years. Most branded pens are gone in a week.

  • They're compact and lightweight — easy to ship, easy to hand out at events, easy to include in swag bags

  • They have a hook-and-loop backing — meaning they can go on and off gear as needed, which is something a sewn logo can't do

"Most branded merchandise ends up in a drawer. A great patch ends up on a hat someone actually wears."

What to Know Before You Order

Patch specs: All Pull Patch patches are 3"×2" with a black merrowed edge and hook-and-loop backing that is 100% Velcro-compatible. This is the format. It works on tactical vests, hats with loop panels, bags, morale boards, and more.

Design files: The cleaner your file, the better your patch. Vector files (AI, EPS, SVG) are ideal for logos. High-resolution PNGs work well for most designs. We can work with what you have—but if you can get us a vector file for the logo, do that.

Color: Embroidery uses thread colors, not ink. Complex gradients and photographic images are better suited for woven or PVC patches. If you're unsure which type fits your design, describe it when you submit and we'll recommend the right format.

Quantity: There's no ceiling. Volume pricing tiers kick in as quantities increase. If you're ordering for a team, always pad the number slightly — you'll want extras for new members, replacements, and the person who "forgot" to order one.

Turnaround: Custom orders go through a design review before production. Plan accordingly. If you have a hard deadline — an event date, a season opener, a trade show — tell us upfront and we'll work with your timeline.

Common Bulk Use Cases

Sports teams and leagues: Custom team patches for hats, bags, and gear. Coaches' patches, player name-and-number patches, and championship and tournament commemorative patches.

Corporate events and trade shows: Branded patches for staff hats and vests. Event-specific designs. Swag bag inserts. Client and employee gifts that are more memorable than the typical options.

Fire departments and first responders: Station patches, commemorative designs, and custom unit insignia. We have a customizable fire department patch as a starting point, or we can build from your specific design.

Military and veterans organizations: Unit reunion patches, memorial patches, custom insignia for clubs and associations.

Clubs, leagues, and associations: Disc golf leagues, cornhole tournaments, outdoor clubs, car groups, motorcycle clubs — custom patches for members and events.

Businesses and brand programs: Employee anniversary patches, company milestone designs, branded patches for uniforms or gear.

What to Include When You Submit a Bulk Order

  1. Your design file or a clear description of what you want

  2. Quantity needed

  3. Your deadline or event date, if applicable

  4. Any color preferences or constraints

  5. How the patches will be used — this helps us recommend the right patch type

From there, we'll review your design, provide a proof, and confirm the timeline before production begins.

Reorders Are Easy

One underrated benefit of custom patches: once your design is produced, reordering is straightforward. The design file stays on record. Future runs are faster and simpler than the first one. If you're outfitting an organization that grows over time, this matters.
